2012: The Odyssey

I've been investigating the significance of December 21, 2012 for quite some time. One of the best explanations I've found is contained in the following film (divided into in 11 short video clips). Many of the foremost researchers into the Mayan calendar end date offer succinct explanations of their findings. The complete set of video clips can be found at And You And I.

I have been reading that the original calculation of 12/21/12 was done incorrectly (and perhaps cannot be done accurately by anyone). If people are believing that something will occur THAT DAY (rather than during that period, or more likely in the months and years that we approach that time) they will be disappointed. It will be a cosmic Y2K and the general public will scoff after that day.

"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. in Crystal River, Florida. To render December 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."

The Maya fourth epoch ended in August 1987 - did you note any changes?

Your thoughts?

In his lecture talk titled "Appreciating Imagination" Terence McKenna reveals some of the secrets regarding timewave zero and the mushroom-induced prophecy.

"An astonishing thing about the date I arrived at,December 21, 2012, by this method is that it's the same date that the Mayan civilization appointed for the end of its calendar. In all eternity ... You know, you may choose not to believe that I didn't know this when I made this prediction. But I didn't, know it! I didn't. Yet I chose not the month, not the same year - the same day, month and year."

I found this talk to be a much more accurate representation of 2012 and McKenna's philosophy than is normally spewed out as a surface-level thinking on McKenna's works.
